The Michigan Bariatric Society aims to enroll all practicing bariatric surgeons and integrated health personnel in the state of Michigan. 

The Michigan Bariatric Society can provide a voice to help with issues affecting bariatric surgery practices and their patients.  Join the Michigan Bariatric Society and make a strong statement for leadership and patient advocacy.

Officially incorporated in June of 2008, the Michigan Bariatric Society's general purpose is to study morbid obesity and advance the art and science of metabolic and bariatric surgery by:

  • Encouraging its members to pursue investigations both in the clinic and laboratory setting.
  • Interchanging ideas, information and experience pertaining to metabolic and bariatric surgery.
  • Establishing and promoting guidelines for patient selection and care.
  • Promoting improved perioperative and long-term care of patients and the reduction of patient risk.
  • Fostering educational programs for physicians, integrated health personnel and laypeople.
  • Promoting outcome studies and quality assurance.
  • Representing the ASMBS, being the recognized authority and resource on metabolic and bariatric surgery in the State of Michigan.




The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS)

is the largest society for this specialty in the world.
